This album is what I envision to be the first of two musical journeys back, recalling gospel songs and hymns I often heard as a child. Classics, these songs were, and still are, among favorites of my parents' and grandparents' generations -- and of my generation, as well.

I vividly remember, at about the age of three, sitting on the front pew of our small, white-clapboard country church listening to and watching my mom play gospel songs and hymns on the piano. She had (and still has) quite a reputation for "making that piano talk." I clearly remember the day I first played a song "with both hands" for my mom when she came home one afternoon when I was three or four, "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms." (In fact, I'm saving that one, along with other more lively songs, for "A Second Journey Back," sure to include "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" that my Aunt Martha taught me one afternoon. This, by the way, will be the album my dad kept wanting me to do.)

I hope this quiet and reflective collection might bring to your heart and mind the blessings of years past and that, most importantly, the Lord will use it to draw you closer to Himself.
